Finally It Has Paid Off
Posted July 27, 2013
I know I haven’t posted anything in a long time but I have literally been running
around everywhere and haven’t had time to post. I have a new full time job that I
love where I am doing Graphic Design work and just love going to work everyday.
All the hard work at school has paid off and I am so excited to finally be starting
my career that I have been looking forward to for a long time. Thanks for everyone
who has helped me accomplish this! Hopefully I will start posting more often now.

Well the Pinpoint Show reception was a huge success. I met a lot of people and
they all seemed to really like my portfolio. Everyone seemed to be having a lot of
fun listening to the music, enjoying the food, and looking through everyones
unique portfolios. The show is still open this week for people to come check out
the portfolios they might have missed on Friday night. Thanks to everyone who
came to see all of our hard work!

This article gave some really good advice about sketching using pencil and paper,
like everyone used to start out with. Most people today usually come up with their
ideas by sketching with their mouse or tablet. However, there is much more freedom
when sketching with a pencil and paper. Your mind is constantly thinking about the
next idea and the pencil lets you be more creative and transfer to paper what is exactly
on your mind. Many awesome designs come from sketching on paper and this article
gives some more examples and images about the importance of sketching.

I originally saw this video when it first came out but I recently saw it again and I am
always amazed by it. We all get this perception of how we should look and how
models look in magazine and on tv, but really no one looks like that. This short
video shows how they just use a person as a starting point and once they get to
a certain look, they finish that look in photoshop and the finished product
doesn’t even look like the real person. I just thought this video was really interesting
in how they show the process from start to finish.

Since I am in Packaging class this semester I thought this was an interesting post
to share. It shows the 2012 package design winners. Most people probably do not
think about packaging when they are out shopping, but since I’ve taken this packaging
class, I have become more aware of all the different types of packaging there are and
how everything is made. There are so many small details that actually go into making
a package and that is really interesting to me.

Since there are a lot of zombie shows and movies coming out, and since I love
watching The Walking Dead, I thought this article was something fun and different.
The designer Ben Fellowes, took some everyday logos and altered them to look like
what they would if the Zombie Apocalypse was happening. He also created some new
creative names for the logos.

This article was really different and interesting to read. This artist
Janine Antoni used chocolate as her choice of medium for her
sculptures. All of the sculptures in the picture are self-portraits of
Janine Antoni. It was really interesting to read because she actually
had to do a lot of research on the chocolate because she had to find
out which chocolate would last the longest without self-destructing.

I really enjoyed this video showing the evolution of many familiar
logos. Everyone is so used to seeing logos that they might see everyday,
but seeing this video really makes you notice how much they have
changed and where they started from.

Since it’s the weekend, I thought this would be a fun post to look at.
This website gives 20 random fun facts about graphic design that maybe
you knew already or maybe you didn’t know. One of the facts I did know
was number 12 for the winner of the Oscar for the best animated shot film,
“Logorama” which is further down in my earlier posts.

This is a video that was done by Mariko Nishimura, a graphic design
student. I thought this video was put together very well and was really
entertaining to watch throughout the whole thing. It explained some
basic vocabulary used in graphic design and it was really fun at the

I thought this article was really fun to look at and show all these unique
print ads that are very creative and understood. At first the viewer might
not get the ad and what it’s trying to say but once it’s figured out, the ad
is very affective. I liked the Play-Doh ad. They were using a shock tactic
type of ad to get the meaning across and I really think it worked out well.
I think these ads are very well designed and will be easily remembered by

This article shows how to Kern certain fonts. Many designers love to do
this but some do not. Kerning is different with every letter combination.
Some letters are much easier to Kern than others and there are many different
tips in the article to help figure out the best way for each combination. Some
of these tips are obvious but some are really different and may help a lot the
next time you are kerning something difficult.

This article shows many different types of animals actually made out of the word
of the animal. I thought this was really interesting and sometimes it takes the
viewer a while to see all the individual letters, but I think this is very creative and
really grabs peoples attention. They were all done by Dan Fleming, a British/Australian
graphic designer who works in brand identity and logo design.

I thought this article was very appropriate since Valentine’s Day is right around the
corner. There are five different gifts that are bright red and very different, that could
be given to someone on Valentine’s Day. I thought all the gifts were unique and fun.
This article was just something fun and maybe someone will want to buy something!
